Course Description

One bad decision in an IRS case can cost a client thousands of dollars, destroy appeal rights, trigger unnecessary enforcement action, or create serious professional liability concerns for the practitioner handling the matter.

In this fast-paced and practical webinar, we will examine some of the most dangerous mistakes tax preparers and representatives make while handling IRS collection, compliance, and resolution cases,  many of which occur far more often than practitioners realize.

Through real-world examples and practitioner-focused discussion, attendees will learn how seemingly small errors can quickly spiral into major case problems, including:

  • Missing critical IRS deadlines and appeal rights
  • Giving incorrect or incomplete advice to taxpayers
  • Filing unnecessary returns that create additional liabilities
  • Pursuing the wrong resolution strategy
  • Mishandling IRS notices and enforcement actions
  • Overlooking refund statute expiration dates (RSEDs)
  • Making avoidable mistakes in Installment Agreements and Offers in Compromise
  • Failing to properly investigate IRS transcripts and account issues

Whether you are newer to representation work or an experienced practitioner looking to sharpen your approach, this webinar will provide practical insights, cautionary examples, and real-world strategies you can immediately apply in your practice.
